According to etsy you need to apply for this if you somewhere in the production chain use outside help, so I'm guessing that also includes my future photo prints.
I might not do the actual creation of the product (coaster, physical photo, notebook, postcard etc.) but I do everything before and after that. My other products are of course 100% handmade. In my eyes the work is still at least 50% handmade with my photo products. Let's take two of my creations and break down how it works:
1. b&w coasters
I first photograph with my Diana mini camera (with b&w roll), send the roll in and develop it, when I get the pictures back I correct the edges in photoshop and for some I've made them b&w (first company I used sent sepia coloured photos to me). Then I put them into the CEWE software and make sure they lie as I want them and then I send the order and CEWE manufacture them. After that I pay and collect them, open the package for a quality check; to see if they're correct in colour, style and has no damage, I also remove excessive plastic in the corners. If they're up to par according to my standard I will sell them.
I go out and photograph, do some minor edit adjustments (contrast and sharpness mostly) in photoshop. In the software from CEWE I make sure that the picture is aligned as I want it to and then I send the order and they manufacture. After that I pay and collect them, open the package for a quality check; to see if they're correct in colour, that the photo lie as designed, correct style (blank or lined pages) and that they're not damaged in any way. If they're up to par according to my standard I will sell them.
CEWE is a photo service with production in Europe. Their main office is in Germany. They have retail partners through out Europe and I use two of the Swedish ones. As a big company they try to pull their own weight in several areas in sustainability, environment and society which make me feel more confident in using them as my production company. They manufacture my calendars, coasters, notebooks, Christmas cards and Valentine's day cards.
